Thor: The Dark World Mid-Credits Scene *SPOILERS*

If you haven’t seen Thor: The Dark World, and you plan to, this is probably a good time to stop reading this… because the the movie will be spoiled for you.

“Kurse HATE Spoilers! Kurse not see movie yet! Kurse have hard time watching himself on screen!”

If you are wondering who that flamboyant character was the Sif and Volstagg turned over the box of Aether was, well that was a gentlemen known as The Collector (played by Benicio del Toro). The Collector is a BILLIONS OF YEARS OLD guy that just started collecting things so he wouldn’t be bored. Seriously.

The idea was for the The Collector to be “an outer-space Liberace”. Mission: Accomplished.

Now, why did the Asgardians turn this over to him in the first place? Well, they mention that it’s because it ‘s not safe to keep two Infinity Stones in the same place, and they already have the Tesserect (you know, that box thing from Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers that Red Skull and Loki both wanted to use to conquer the world… duh)

As I previously stated, the two items (the Tesseract and the Aether) are referred to as “Infinity Stones”. The Infinity Stones (for those of you who don’t have adolescent children and thus HAVE NOT seen every episode of Super Hero Squad and  have also not played EVERY Super Hero Squad video game) are what powers the Infinity Gauntlet. A device that looks an awful lot like the Nintendo Power Glove, but has very different uses in that whoever wields it while it contains the Infinity Stones will retain GOD-LIKE POWER.

Will make you god-LIKE…

Will make you a GOD!

In the comic books, The Collector did once possess an Infinity Stone but he wasn’t aware of it’s power or how to use it. But these films don’t follow the comics exactly, so I have no idea how they’ll approach the character in the films. I do feel confident that he’ll be interacting with Thanos, seeing as Thanos is always in hot pursuit of the Infinity Stones and Gauntlet.

You may remember Thanos from the end of The Avengers, and also as the only person in the universe with a bigger chin than Jay Leno.

This all leads us directly into the Guardians of the Galaxy movie which will be released next summer, as The Collector is a part of that film as well. (The Collector also attempted to “collect” Wasp and the Avengers once so there’s a chance we could see him pop up more than in just this scene and in Guardians.)

Another very interesting rumor that has recently popped up is the possible inclusion of Adam Warlock in the Guardians film. Now, there’s never been any official word either way but in this med-credits scene we are shown a very curious “artifact”…

To the untrained eye, that looks like a 3rd graders science project that was put together the morning of the school science fair that is essentially just stuff glued to other stuff with no real reason or purpose… BUT… to a comic book nerd, that’s a warlock cocoon.

Not that kind. Although there are schools of thought that suggest Wilford Brimley could be a warlock…

The warlock cocoon is basically a place where Adam Warlock can rejuvenate his energy and power. He’s also one of the few people known to have possessed all of the Infinity Stones, and he’s been a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
