It begins here – with this terrifying DOUBLE-SIZED FIRST ISSUE featuring forty-four pages of story with no ads!
I went into one of my LCS today and our friend who works there, Steve, asked if I would be interested in the last copy of Outcast that they had. It actually took me a long moment to decide if I wanted it or not. And I’m going to be honest with you, I only bought this book so I can flip it. A #1 Kirkman should go for something… eventually. But I was extremely surprised with this book. I have read most of The Walking Dead, so I’m familiar with Kirkman’s work.
This book was terrifying. I’m a somewhat religious person, so I’m not a fan of the whole appeal of demonic things in pop culture. But this book was unique. I knew NOTHING about this when I picked it up, and this was an amazing surprise. Paul Azaceta’s art is amazing and it works perfectly with the story that Kirkman is creating. The art reminds me of TWD, but it is also something truly unique and different. The use of both dark and light colors and backgrounds really added to the eerie sense that this book is conjuring up.
This book was terrifying. I don’t do scary things. If I’m hanging out with friends and they decide to watch a horror movie, that’s my cue to leave. In all honestly this book made me feel uncomfortable and a little uneasy. I actually enjoyed that, but it’s not my cup of tea. So for me, the only bad thing about this book was it was a bit scary. The scariest I get in comics is Hellblazer, and that’s not really saying much. BUT if you do love horror movie and horror stories, this is the story for you. Just not necessarily me.
The Final Say
This book was truly something special, specially for a #1. It realy caught me off guard and I enjoyed that. As someone who doesn’t normally read horror stories, this was amazing. I have to give this a 4 out of 4. IF you enjoy horror stories you NEED to hop on this series before it blows up and becomes a TV(or movie) in ten years.
