DC Comics and the Rock, Sitting in a tree… K-I-S-S-I-N-G!

(Please nobody tell him about that title. I like all my bones right where they are and not shattered…)

On New Years Eve, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson tweeted this:

So… what the hell does that mean? It’s clearly non-specific on purpose, because he’s probably sworn to secrecy under threat of death over whatever they’re meeting with him about.

The People’s Champ was actually tied to a couple of DC projects in the past. One was to be a Lobo feature film:

I don’t know that Dwayne is enough of a KISS fan to pull this off

…And in the other he would have played the villain Black Adam in a Shazam/Captain Marvel feature film.

Why does the bad guy have to be “Black” Adam…?

This tweet has obviously generated a lot of speculation as to what DC character he could be involved in bringing to life (assuming that’s what his cryptic tweet means). Considering that he was the top grossing actor of 2013, DC is probably making a smart move by tapping him for a role in one of their films. It’s most likely not gonna be a Shazam movie. That just seems unnecessary. If you’re familiar with Lobo then you know that he lacks a certain charming crudeness to really do that character justice. Lobo would be better off played by someone like Ron Perlman or Kevin Durand.

On second thought, maybe Ron is saying “yes” to too many roles lately…

So what else is possible… well, some people think Doomsday is an option.

He could do it, but I feel like if they’re gonna lock him in for something, it’s not gonna be for a character they’ll feasibly only get one use out of. Considering his current level of stardom, it seems likely that they’ll have him play a character that allows them to sign him to a multi-picture deal.

But who could that be? Well, in my opinion, the most likely option would  be J’onn J’onzz, aka: Martian Manhunter.

This seems fairly logical. He could definitely pull of the look with some good make-up effects and MM is pretty cold and calculated, which I think The Rock could do. Plus, they could get a lot of on-screen time out of this character.

Regardless of who he plays, locking in an actor like The Rock is a really good move on Warner Bros’ & DC’s part. He’s extremely likable and he’s unlike a lot of muscled action stars because he can actually act (see Be Cool and  Southland Tales).

I can smell what your cooking Mr Johnson, and it smells like success… also, do I detect cayenne pepper?
